A Prince Among Communists by Jean Michel Cantacuzène focuses on 60 years of the principal character's life – a Renaissance man who lived through the horrors of the 20th century – and tells the tale of his country, Romania, from the Belle Époque to the People's Republic.

A plaque of Georges and his wife Sanda by engraver Lucien Bazor and a watercolour of Moldavia painted by Georges were chosen for the dust jacket, with Wibalin claret for the cover and matching end papers. The 365-page book is set in Adobe Caslon Pro (Carol Twombly) throughout.
